Super Friday

Filed under: Friends — jezzieboy @ 8:21 am

This Friday was pretty exciting.  I had arranged to meet up with Josh and James in town so we could get started on shooting our short film that we were working on for media studies.  So we arranged to meet in Rundle mall at 10am.  I woke up at 10.40am; not a good start.  I headed down to the bus stop as quickly as I could but that didn’t  stop me from missing the bus.  As I was waiting for the next bus an old man came up to me and gave me five dollars.  Yep, just came out of nowhere and gave me money.  I swear I’ve never seen him in my life.  He mumbled something about me buying myself something to east from the bakery.  I didn’t say anything, unless you count confused um/er noises as speech.  He left, and as he drove away in his car he waved at me and wasn’t watching where he was driving and he almost hit another car.  The car tooted angrily at him and I chuckled, what a stupid old man.  Even though he gave me money I didn’t like him.  He seemed to think that I was waiting outside the bakery like a beggar boy waiting for someone to toss me some scraps.  He thought he’d done his good deed for the day by giving a poor boy his first meal in two days.  He was seriously out of it.  Anyway after I had bought myself a sausage roll and a crappy energy drink that tasted like ultra-watered-down cordial I caught the bus into the city.

Luckily Iran into James and Josh in Rundle mall, they weren’t impressed that I was two and a half hours late but they got over it and we headed off to the costume store.  In the short film I play a superhero wannabe and for one scene I have to dress up in a superman costume and run around town trying to save people.  So we had to hire a superman costume and I had to walk around town in tight lycra for hours…  While filming we ran into Bart’s ex-girlfriend, Elliot and we met a guy called Nick who said he had some acting experience and offered to play a role in our film.  Luckily for Nick we had a role for him as a security guard, and luckily for us Nick was a security guard so everything worked out.  When the time came that I was allowed to remove the lyrca I was so revealed I went into a random ally to change (I couldn’t wait to find the nearest public toilet, the alleyway was probably cleaner anyway).  So after all the hard filming work I caught the train home.

As soon as I got home I put my phone on charge.  I had been out of battery for a week because I left the charger at my dad’s house.  When I turn it on I receive about 12 messages from various people but that most important one was one from Ian inviting me to a party in Tee Tree Plaza.  Mel was calling me to go for a walk to the video store to hire games so I left the thoughts of parties behind and me and Rory and I went up to Blockbuster and hired GTAIV for the night.  We also looked in Le Cheep for some air horns but they were sold out, goddammit.  We didn’t want the air horns simply to make loud noises, we wanted them so we could get high.  If you suck the gas from an air horn aerosol can up your nose you get a small high and your voice goes really deep, it’s quite fun.  Sadly, no air horn fun for either of us that night.  We got back and played GTAIV.  It is the best fucking game, words cannot describe how fun it is.  Well they probably can, but I’m not going to try.  So it’s a good game.  Now I had to make a decision; stay home and play GTAIV all night or got all the way our to Tee Tree Plaza for a party.  I chose GTAIV.  Although while Rory and I were playing GTAIV I got a phone call from Ian.  He was pretty drunk and I could hear shouting in the background.  I talked to people at the party for a while, it was pretty funny.  I got about 5 more calls from Ian throughout my night, each one with increasing annoyance.

Oh yeah, I had dinner!  Exciting!  It was probably the best chicken schnitzel I’ve ever had.  So delicious.  Drool…  Anyway, so then, I get a phone call from Tylor asking me to come to another party in Aberfolye Park.  Aberfolye park is quite close to Eden Hills and he did insist quite insistently so I went.  It was quite enjoyable, although I didn’t bring anything to drink and all Tylor had was some Canadian Club with I loathe.  But it was still quite a good night overall, especially since Benjamin has a massive television and Spongebob Squarepants was on.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Spongebob Squarepants!

Absorbent and yellow and porous is he!

Spongebob Squarepants!

If nautical nonsense be something you wish,

Spongebob Squarepants!

Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish!

Spongebob Squarepants!

Spongebob Squarepants!

Spongebob Squarepants!

Spongebob Squarepants!

Sponge…bob Square…pants!

World of Warcraft

Okay, everybody has heard of this game and I mean EVERYBODY.  Well, everybody with access to the internet or a television or some form of media advertising.  Anyway, so, it’s a good game and I used to play for a while, got a level 60 Tauren Warrior to show for it.  But then one day when my subscription ran out I couldn’t be bothered to buy another ‘gamer’s card’ and I haven’t played since.  I’ve been thinking about getting back into it for a while but never got around to it, it’s mainly a money thing, I mean I have so many other, more important things to spend money on like, alcohol … and drugs.  When I finish school and get a steady job and credit card I will most likely take up playing again but anyway…

Awww, wook at the bunny wabbit.

Awww, wook at the bunny wabbit.

So there two kinds of people in this world, those who play WoW and those who don’t.  And then you have all your subgroups within the two main ones.  Within the ‘people who play WoW’ group you have the hardcore Koreans who spend every waking hour of their life dedicated to WoW and only stop to waffle down some microwave cookery or piss in a coke can (true story),  and then you have the more casual players (like myself) who play for a couple of hours a day and have a great time playing a fun game with some friends (if your questing in a group or raiding).

And in the ‘people who don’t play WoW’ there are those who don’t play because they just don’t play video games and those who aren’t into MMOGs and those who don’t play solely because they want to hate the game on principle of it being the most popular game in the world and they somehow think that they will be cooler if they abstain.  It’s these types of people who really piss me off, I mean, they just simply refuse to play the game because of all the other people who get addicted.  I also hate those people who go onto Gamespot and rate it 1 and then go on some ramble about how it’s the worst game ever because ‘it destroyed my life and my girlfriend broke up with me and it’s all a mess now because of WoW’.  WRONG, it’s not WoWs fault, it’s yours buddy!

It also pains me to see those videos of people deleting their characters because they are addicted and they need to stop.  Not only are you destroying hundreds of hours of work but you are severing all the social connections you have made with that character.  Trust me, after playing a game for so long you do make some pretty good friends, and these people go and destroy all of that, all because of a stupid addiction.  There are plenty of other ways to help your addiction, you could use the parental controls for your account, you could uninstall WoW, you could simply let your subscription run out.  There are heaps of other options other than destroying all that you’ve worked towards.  Geuhhh…

So, why was WoW such a popular game?  What made it so great?  Well, the simple answer to that is that is was a very accessible game, it appealed to a very large audience.  It was also very user friendly and was very easy to pick up and play and yet still had enough complexity to make it difficult to master.  The world is large and very diverse, there are different monsters and scenery everywhere you go so the game never gets old.  Last and I feel most importantly: It doesn’t take itself too seriously; the graphics are cartoony and the gameplay is fun, bright and colourful.

So, if you haven’t played WoW before I suggest you at least give it a go, it didn’t become the worlds most popular game for no reason.  If you don’t want to spend $20 or so on a game you can download the full client and a free 20 day trial at www.warcraft.com.

Some people love it, some people hate it, but you never know until you play it.

I knew I wanted to start a blag but I didn’t know what I wanted it to be about.  If it didn’t have any particular theme or focus then it would just end up being a chaotic mix or ramblings and disjointed thoughts.  Not that things like that aren’t interesting but it’s just not what I want.  So I thought to myself that I should just write about things that I like.  But what do I like?  I thought about it for a while and I eventually came up with the five things the I value the most on this earth.  In no particular order those things are: food, games, music, internet and friends.  So that is what my blag is about.  Enjoy.

Oh yeah by the way, my name is Jesse, I’m 17 years old and I live in South Australia.
